More than two years since his debut movie Paruthiveeran, Karthi came back strongly with Selvaraghavan's Aayirathil Oruvan. Though the movie received mixed responses, there is no doubt of his stupendous performance in this movie, which is an important chapter in Tamil cinema. Then came Paiyya. Breaking away from rustic roles, Karthi was seen as a stylish urban chap in the film.
