Road, Movie (2010)

Synopsis :

Vishnu (Abhay Deol), a restless young man, itches to escape his father's faltering hair oil business. An old truck beckons, which Vishnu sees as his ticket to freedom. He offers to drive the antique Chevy across the desert to the sea, where it has been sold to a local museum. As he sets off across the harsh terrain of desert India, he discovers he’s not merely transporting a battered vehicle but an old touring cinema. Along the way, Vishnu reluctantly picks up a young runaway (Mohammed Faizal Usmani), a wandering old entertainer (Satish Kaushik) and a striking gypsy woman (Tannishtha Chatterjee - Brick Lane). Together they roam the barren land, searching for water and an elusive fair. The journey turns dire when they are waylaid by corrupt cops and a notorious waterlord. The key to their freedom is the eccentric collection of films and the two forty-year-old film projectors in the back of the truck. As in 1001 Nights, if the films are good, they live and move on. If the films are boring, they face death in the outback. The journey proves transformative for each of the travelers especially for Vishnu who discovers life, love and laughter on the Indian highway.

Rann Movie Review :
Ramgopal Varma is itching to tell a new story in his movies. You may garland him for his efforts or loathe him if you feel letdown, but you need to hand it to him for picking up stories that defy stereotype.
This time, in RANN, the maverick film-maker does an expose on the games the heavyweights in the media play to further their interests. RGV goes into the newsrooms and also behind it and throws light on the politician-industrialist-media nexus. Also, it’s an insider’s account of how news channels that are greedy for ratings sensationalize stories to grab eyeballs.
On surface, you don’t want to know what goes behind the scenes and how, at times, news are ‘created’ by vested interests. But RANN scratches the surface and opens a can of worms. RANN also mirrors the fact that just like there are good and bad people in every field, there’re some rotten ones in the media too who succumb to temptations and create news to climb the ladder of success.

Priyadarshan and Woodpecker strike a 100 crore deal

Priyadarshan and Woodpecker strike a 100 crore deal

Four Frames the decade old production house of the foremost film maker with the best strike rate, Priyadarshan, has struck a major breakthrough US 20 million $ (approximately Rs 100 Crore) deal, with a U.S based Entertainment Fund, Woodpecker Holding Inc. USA through their Indian subsidiary company, Woodpecker Pictures and Entertainment Ltd .

As per the arrangement agreed upon between the two companies, Four Frames have been assigned to produce on behalf of Woodpecker Holdings, 2 Hindi Feature Films.

Both the films will be directed by Priyadarshan himself.

To further consolidate its association with Four Frames, Woodpecker is also in negotiations for a mainstream international movie with a Top Hollywood Cast to be shot in Mexico, which Priyadarshan would be directing as part of the third project of this joint venture.

Throwing light on the joint venture, Priyadarshan confirmed the deal saying, "Yes, we at Four Frames have entered into an infrastructural and investment joint venture, wherein Woodpecker will be forwarding the entire investments for the desired productions, which Four Frames will produce on their behalf."

The Chief Architect and Promoter of Woodpecker Holdings Inc. USA, Mr. Rajesh Bhatia, elaborates the enterprises, "Whilst observing the rough weather many Corporates recently experienced in the Indian entertainment industry, we at Woodpecker decided to put our initial investments under a single dependable and dedicated umbrella. There could be no seat-belt safer than Priyadarshan, to secure our ride in this roller-coaster business."

The first Woodpecker-Four Frames Production goes on floors in April 2010 with a start-to-finish 60 days schedule in Chennai and Europe. While the second film will be still another start-to-finish venture between September and December 2010.

So looks like Woodpecker has monopolized Priyadarshan for 2010.

When asked to divulge details on the starcast for both the films, Rajesh Bhatia revealed, "For us Priyadsarshan is our trump card. And biggest Star. The rest of the creative decisions from casting to concepts are solely at his discretion."

After '3 Idiots', Bollywood advises on student stress

Aamir Khan starrer "3 Idiots" has spurred Bollywood personalities to look at their educational qualifications, how they got their degrees and how students should lead their lives.
The film, about life in an engineering college, tried to give the message that getting a degree is not the be-all and end-all of education.
Here is how some Bollywood personalities react to questions on their student life and give their advice to students:
Urmila Matondkar: "I'm a BA in psychology. I was always under stress in both school and college as I had to manage both studies and acting. I dealt with it by diverting stress into positive aggression in my studies.
"My advice to students: Stress is part of life. You can't run away from it. So deal with it before it's too late. It helps to be book-smart at any time of life, as long as you learn from those books and not just mug."
Dino Morea: "I became a graduate. Was never stressed at school. Had the best time ever. Yes, if reading and being aware of a subject is being book-smart, for sure it's handy in life. I was never depressed in school. I was naughty, but I studied hard."
Kangana Ranaut: "I left school when I was 16. But I'm glad to tell you I've always been a topper in my class. To achieve that I used to study 18 hours a day.
"The science in school didn't help me much in my daily life as an adult. But the passion to be the best in my class and the love for books remain. Now I'm an artiste and I read on art. And I thank my hard work during school for this."
Pritam Chakraborty: "I did BSc honours in geology from Presidency College in Kolkata, postgraduate diploma in sound recording and engineering from the Film and Television Institute, Pune. I think mugging up and learning without understanding is useless in later life. But a basic education is important to build up personality.
"I used to feel stressed before exams after Class 7 when I stood first in class. Later everybody at home became interested in my rank and that was a matter of stress for me for years.
"I had music to kill the depression created due to studies. Also I had a great circle of family and friends. Doing badly in academics doesn't mean you do badly in life. Discover your inner strength and choose a career you enjoy."
Celina Jaitly: "I've done one and a half years of BSc and have a software engineering degree from NIIT. I scored 89 percent in 10th boards and 75 percent in 12th. I used to feel very stressed during board exams. Thanks to my parents I made it through all my panic attacks.
"Playing a sport like tennis or swimming is a great way to keep fresh and alert. I remember my mother insisted we play a sport for half an hour even during exams. It was a great stress buster. Focus well on your studies. Do meditation and take power naps."
Ken Ghosh: "I'm a 12th Standard fail. In school I was quite a smart kid and actually enjoyed studies because of excellent teachers."
Amole Gupte: "I was a class topper with distinction till the 12th, then passed BCom with 37 percent, having tasted theatre through degree college.
"I have no distinct school memories except for excursions, plays, poetry, elocution, quiz programmes and art melas. I remember my head mistress in primary school who instilled my self-worth by discovering my recitation skills. In high school I loved my Hindi teacher Naamvar Singh, a poet and lyricist of repute. And my English teachers Parmar sir and Acharya sir for their passion for the language and their love for Wordsworth, Auden, Frost and D.H. Lawrence."

FIRED,Rahul Bose's Fired has got 'Terrifying Kisses'

Rahul Bose's new film, the horror-thriller 'Fired' may turn into a 15 minute documentary if the Censors decide to chop off all the 'objectionable' scenes from the film.
'Fired' is replete with loads of gratuitous gore and steamy scenes, but director Sajit Warrier defends the theme of the film by saying that he is targeting international audiences. Moreover, the kisses are not meant to titillate, but to send shivers down the audience's spine. "I am talking about a pure Indian horror film here for an international audience. And horror by certain standards needs to have ample amount of gore and sex," Warrier told reporters, "So it`s not a lustful titillating kind of kiss that we are portraying... it`s haunting. The kisses in `Fired` for that matter will terrify audiences.
"We don`t want to cut anything but we'll have to show it to the censors. I don`t want a U/A certificate. We are happy with an A-certificate but with that we should not be asked for any more cuts because we are trying to reach that kind of audience," he added. The Censor Board ordered the producers to remove any skin show in the trailers of the film. The gore and violence was also forced to be toned down so as to be 'suitable' for TV channels. As per the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, TV promos with 'A' certificate are not permitted to be aired on any Indian channel. Even after producers chopped off almost all of the violence and skin show in the trailers, the film was slapped with an 'A' certificate.
Rahul Bose said: "I feel we have a misplaced sense of censorship. What I feel is gory or vulgar somebody else might not. Even for the sex scene, I feel people are more mature now and so self-censorship should be the key." Warnier, who also wrote the script of 'Fired' said, "The important point is that the protagonist has been shown hallucinating under the influence of anti-depressants since the beginning of the film. Hence all scenes are in the character`s mind and in flashback including the love scenes. There is some nudity but we agreed to remove it though we might keep it for the international audience. There are also some scenes where blood has been shown but we are not showing violence here. It just plays around in his head."
Click here to watch the trailer of Fired!
According to the official synopsis of the film, Joy Mittal, the arrogant CEO of H.W.L.S, in a hardnosed decision to repair his scandal ridden work record and prove his ability to emerge as a pioneering leader in times of financial crisis, fires all the employees from his London office to cope with the global economic slowdown. Amongst the sacked employees is Ruby Herminson, 29, an alluring, sophisticated, career-driven woman, with whom a married Joy is having a long affair. Joy fires Ruby along with the rest of the people he considers expendable. After a trying day, Joy decides to finish off some paperwork before heading home, but soon realizes that the only possible means of leaving is the one he least bargained for.
Cornered in a deserted office, Joy soon realizes that there is a gruesome super-natural force in the building, which is hell-bent on extracting revenge for his ruthless actions. Fired is the shocking tale of a man who pays a steep price for his cold-blooded actions. Fired releases in early 2010, a few days before Maiilka Sherawat's 'Hisss'.

Balki puts his next film on hold for his wife

Director Balki has halted his plans for his next feature film until his wife Gauri Shinde, whom he met in the advertising world, makes her first feature.

'She isn't going to rush her script. And I'm willing to wait,' says the director who missed the Screen popular awards for best director and best film which went to Raj Kumar Hirani's '3 Idiots' instead of 'Paa'.

In fact, the director said he didn't even want to attend the award ceremony.

'In all these years in advertising I never went for award functions for excellence in ad-making. Naturally I thought I'd extend the same attitude to filmmaking. However Mr. Bachchan and Abhishek wanted me to accompany them for the Screen awards so I went. It was fun! I was thrilled for Amitji, Vidya Balan, the child artiste who played Vishnu and Arundhati Nag.'

As for missing out on the awards for best director and best picture, Balki shrugged and said: 'It just means more people saw '3 Idiots' than 'Paa' which I gladly accept. I saw '3 Idiots' too and had a good time. I thought Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor were fantastic.'

Balki is in fact thinking of working with Kareena, after having seen such outstanding work from Tabu in 'Cheeni Kum' and Vidya Balan in 'Paa'. 'I'd also love to work with Deepika Padukone,' says Balki enthusiastically.

Since Big B will be in his next film, will Deepika star opposite the actor?

'Why not?' shoots back Balki. 'It all depends on how far you stretch the boundaries of conventionality in cinema. For me there's no point in making feature films if I don't push the envelope. I might as well continue making ads.'

Despite his success, Balki is no mood to rest on his laurels. He has already started working on his next film, a comedy, written with Big B in mind.

Shedding light on the laughter that would emanate from his third feature film Balki says: ''Cheeni Kum' and 'Paa' were both humorous takes on what people saw as serious issues. But I never set out to make issue-based films. They just happened. I just want to entertain the audience intelligently. My comedy won't be slapstick or situational. It would be a very specific situation and theme targeted at bringing out the amusing side of a particular aspect of our life.'

Adurs Movie Review; Adhurs Movie Rating; Jr.NTR

Jr NTR starrer ADURS is a Telugu language film directed by VV VINAYAK which is going to be released in December 2009. The title would be changed to Na Putrudu. Direct VV VINAYAK is directing this film aiming to beat ADI records. NTR is playing double role in ADURS ,Nayanatara is doing the female lead and sheela in second lead role, bollywood director Maheskar Manjrekar plays an important role in this movie.Voluptuous beauty and the bubbly Punjabi Charmy is doing an item song opposite Jr. NTR in the new movie title “Adurs”.

MOVIE REVIEW

Adhurs is a complete entertainer movie. The scenes between NTR and Brahmanandam is amazing and is filled with excellent humour. The role of NTR as Brahmin has a great scope in performance i.e he acted as an innocent man delivering the exact diction of accent which normally we see in Brahmins. NTR justified that role. The other role of him was in contrast with the Brahmin role. The movie is good.

Sush's Date With The Box Office

Sush's Date With The Box Office

Sushmita Sen will be looking forward to this Friday as her film 'Dulha Mil Gaya' will be releasing. Ironically, her competitor at the box office will be another former beauty queen, Priyanka Chopra, whose 'Pyaar Impossible' is also set for a release this week.
Both Sush and Priyanka have been Miss India at different points of time. The difference though has been that Sushmita never managed to enjoy the kind of success at the box office as Priyanka is currently. In fact, Priyanka is easily among the top ranking actresses in the industry today. Very early in her career, the actress revealed her fair for histrionics which was noticed by the directors that matter. Today, she has makers like Ashutosh Gowariker, Vishal Bhardwaj and Madhur Bhandarkar on her resume. Sushmita has not been very lucky in her choice of films. Barring an odd 'Main Hoon Na', a 'Aankhen' or a 'Biwi No 1', she has never tasted the kind of critical or popular success as Priyanka has. But yet, even today, Sushmita carries an aura of a diva about her. It's got nothing to do with the number of films which have hit bull's eye, but something which is so intrinsically her. So, in a certain sense, there is really no competition, as both Sushmita and Priyanka have an entirely different appeal. While Sush will have Shah Rukh Khan and Fardeen Khan for company, Priyanka will be seen in the company of Uday Chopra. It remains, however, to be seen how the box office reacts to them. There is much at stake for both films. 'Pyaar Impossible' is crucial for Uday as it is his comeback venture. He hopes to resurrect his acting career with this movie, the script of which he has written himself. It will also mean a lot for Jugal Hansraj, the film's young director as it will be his first feature film post his animation film. As for 'Dulha Mil Gaya', it is an important film for producer Vivek Vaswani, who has managed to rope in SRK in a special appearance, to boost the fortunes of his movie. When he had signed SRK opposite Sushmita, he was obviously very influenced by their steaming jodi in 'Main Hoon Na'. It remains to be seen if Sush and SRK can revoke the magic of that movie. There is also Fardeen, whose career could do with a hit. Finally, there is director Mudassar Aziz who will debut with this film and will be hoping to get off to a winning start. However, ultimately, this Friday, it will be about Sushmita and Priyanka.

Esha Sticks To Mom's Film

Esha Sticks To Mom's Film

Actress Esha Deol is finally making her comeback after a long hiatus in a film being produced by her mother, actress Hema Malini. The Dream Girl has always been very concerned about her daughter's career and is finally taking matters in her own hands and is producing 'Tell Me Oh Khuda' for Esha.
But that was not the only comeback offer that Esha had. It seems that Yash Raj Films had offered the actress a leading role in their latest television show, called 'Powder'. It appears that Aditya Chopra was rather keen that Esha play the female lead in the serial. But Esha turned the offer down, preferring instead to concentrate on her mother's film, which is due to start any time now. Also, the actress was not keen to get into television in the first place. She used the opportunity, however, to tell Aditya that she would be very keen on working in a Yash Raj banner movie. The role was then offered to Dipannita Sharma, who turned it down as well, till Geetika Tyagi accepted the role. Anyway, Esha is looking forward to 'Tell Me Oh Khuda' which also stars Chandan Roy Sanyal, who was last seen playing the role of Mikhail in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Kaminey'.

'Veer' Veers Into Trouble!

'Veer' Veers Into Trouble!

Salman Khan is on the write path. For the second time, no less. He wielded the pen for the premier time and turned story writer for his Sridevi starrer 'Chandramukhi'. Pity, the flick turned out to be a damp thud at the cine stakes. His next offering, 'Veer' up for a January 22 release, owes it's storyline and script to Khan, whose love for penning tales comes from his illustrious dad, Salim Khan, a formidable scriptwriter in his own right.
The actor is all gung ho about his release and producer Vijay Galani has spared no efforts, mounting his historical opus on a lavish scale, canning scenes at forts in Rajasthan with hordes of elephants, horses and milling crowds. Having spent a monumental sum on ensuring topline production values, tension is peaking. SK, with his trademark valour is assuming full responsibility for his movie's outcome. However, the film's length seems to be a point of contention between director Anil Sharma and him. Khan wants the film's length to be shortened, while the filmmakers refuse to accept his viewpoint. Since Khan is willing to stick his celeb neck out for 'Veer', it is only fair to assume that he has the film's best interest at heart. After all, he too has spent decades in the cine industry and has a pulse on audience tastes. Besides, the recent win of 'Wanted' has spurred Salman further and he isn't willing to take any risky chances.
Will 'Veer''s length be shortened as per what Khan 'Wanted'?

Categories are Best Foreign Film, Best Foreign Film Original Score and Best Foreign Film production Design. Comments the producer Amit Chheda, "It's been a constant pleasure for us. Everywhere that we have gone, we have come back with appreciation and awards. When we had decided to back this project, we knew that it will be a good film, but it has surpassed our own expectations."

The science behind "Avatar"

The making of Avatar

A new research has analyzed what are the things in the movie Avatar that comply with science and can exist in reality and what are the things that are implausible.
According to a report in Discovery News, one of the plausible stuff shown in the movie is the concept of moons that can host life.
Inhabitable moons are probably the most common place to find life in the Milky Way galaxy, simply because large moons outnumber planets by at least a factor of 10.
For example, Saturn's giant moon Titan could be the archetype of inhabitable moons. It is as geologically and meteorologically diverse as Earth.
Another likely concept shown in the film is that biological evolution on other habitable worlds can take a different road than Earth.
In Avatar, the biosphere of Pandora supports and extraterrestrial Serengeti of diverse creatures.
The respiratory systems of many of the species appear to operate differently from ours. Bioluminescence also plays a big role in communication among organisms.
Another plausible stuff shown in the movie is that the atmosphere on other habitable worlds might be breathable for organisms of that planet, but not for human beings.
