Amal Neerad for a Vinayakan film  

Director Amal Neerad who is fresh from his Prithviraj hit 'Anwar' which took a surprise initial, has revealed his original plans to cast character actor Vinayakan as the hero in a new film. The young actor who was mostly seen in underground based films, was also seen in important roles in Amal's all the three movies including 'Big B', and Saagar Alias Jackey reloaded'. Vinayakan was also exceptional in the new movie 'Best Actor', which had him as a dumb character.

Asianet awards for Mammootty, Nayantara  

The 13th Asianet Film Awards has been announced and the winners list is as expected by film buffs. Mohanlal will be presented with the 'Golden Star Award’ for his huge contribution to Malayalam cinema.
There are total 28 categories in this prestigious award and the awards will be presented on January 9 at a gala event Kochi.

Christian Brothers  

Senior Scriptwriter of Mollywood, T A Razaaq, who is taking a break from films following the poor run of his last films, will soon turn his attention to movie direction. His debut movie as a director will have Megasatr Mammootty in the lead and will tell a story based on family bonds. T A Razaaq is currently busy finalising the scripts for this project.

‘Christian Brothers’, not to come soon  

The tough times following Mohanlal's multi-starrer ‘Christian Brothers’ still continues. The movie directed by Joshy first had staccato shooting schedules and then the release dates are confusingly changed.

In the beginning the film was slated for release on October 22 and was shifted to November 26 later. Even that was not final and January 26, 2011 was announced as the new date.

Now we hear it will be further delayed and a tentative release is suggested in March this year.

Suchitra Mitra to remain in the hearts of millions  


Eminent exponent of Tagore songs Suchitra Mitra died at her south Kolkata residence today after protracted illness, according to her family.

She was 86 and is survived by a son. Mitra's rendition of Tagore's Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomai Bhalobasi during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, won hearts of millions.

Mitra took music lessons at the Visva-Bharati where she joined shortly after the demise of Rabindranath Tagore in 1941.

She a received a scholarship to Sangeet Bhavan in Santiniketan, where she had the rare privilege of learning from some of the greatest exponents of Rabindra Sangeet - Indiradevi Chaudhurani, Shantidev Ghosh and Shailajaranjan Mazumdar.

After obtaining her diploma from Santiniketan, Mitra returned to Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1945. In 1946, she received her Master's degree in Bengali from the Scottish Church College.

In the same year, her love and commitment to Tagore's music encourage her to found the 'Rabitirtha', which was named by renowned historian and Tagore scholar Professor Kalidas Nag.

Recipient of the Padmasheree award in 1973, Mitra won the Tagore Hymn Prize in 1945 from the London Tagore Hymn Society, Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1986, and the HMV Golden Disc Award, among numerous others which include Deshikottam of Visva-Bharati.
