Many feel Katrina Kaif is a delicate darling, but her Tees Maar Khan co-star Akshay Kumar doesn't think so.
"We were shooting for the song Bade dilwala and Katrina got so involved in her dance that she actually hit me hard with her elbow. The impact was such that the shooting had to be stalled for two hours," Akshay told reporters.
No cursory greeting. No smiles. Not a single word exchanged. Rather, no contact, at all.
Reportedly, Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan were filming at the famed Mehboob Studios in Mumbai at the same time. And the air was tense with the probable outcome of fireworks, if the unpredictable Khan and his former flame did manage to come face to face!
Khan was facing the arc lights for his home production 'Dabanng', while Kat was beaming away at a photo shoot for Zoya Akhtar's 'Running With The Bulls' starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol.
The staff members posted right outside their respective vanity vans took express care to see that the eventuality did not arise by alerting each about the other's movements, from time to time.
Says a close source, "The two ex lovers kept a very safe distance from one another. At an earlier time, Salman had dropped in to chat with Hrithik in his van when he was shooting for 'Guzaarish' in the same premises. But this time, Duggu also did not come to meet Salman or vice versa. Everyone completed their work and left immediately after pack up was announced."
Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor gave out tepid bytes to music channels in Mumbai, while Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpai merely admired the plush confines around. Pity, since the 'Raajneeti' brigade was slated to address a Press con at… Delhi University!
His earlier efforts at promoting 'Raajneeti' at a heritage venue in New Delhi were stonewalled. And director Prakash Jha had the singular misfortune of meeting the same fate… again!
Jha was desirous of convening his promotional event at the Delhi University, but his plans came to zilch, as police officials categorically warned him that they wouldn't hold themselves responsible for any law and order situation that might stem from it.
Says a close source, "Since the film is supposed to be based on India's leading political family, most Delhi venues have been apprehensive of giving space for the promotion of Prakash Jha's film."
Jha, meanwhile, put up a valiant front and told an eager media, "Security concerns are a big issue in Delhi. Remember, Aamir Khan was not given permission to enter Delhi University and there was a huge ruckus when Vidya Balan went there too. But I do plan to hold the promotional event at Delhi University towards May end." God… and political power willing…
The Katrina Kaif lookalike, had earlier generated a buzz when she'd rescued and adopted a stray cat… and walked to a prominent 'dargah' in Mumbai everyday till her kool Kat, sorry, cat, was all hale and purring away, like there was no t'row!
Well, her little act of goodnesss caught the right pair of eyeballs. And the do gooders of PETA (People For Ethical Treatment of Animals) have decided to reward Ms. Khan.
ZK will soon be conferred with the 'Hero To Animals' award, in addition to a framed certificate. Meooooowwwwwww…. to that.
Katrina Kaif is a true crowd puller. Prakash Jha ought to know. Filmmaker Jha was desirous of putting together a large number of people for some crucial election campaign scenes of 'Raajneeti' at Bhopal.
Word spread like wildfire… and fifty blinks later, Jha saw milling crowds swarming the venue in the hope of grabbing a glimpse of their fave stars.
And kool Kat led the way. All the way.
States an insider, "Katrina was the one who pulled in maximum number of people. The crowds went berserk when they saw her. They all wanted to take her autograph!"
Si, Senorita… agree Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay. The trio will be spotted speaking in Spanish in Zoya Akhtar's forthcoming flick 'Running With The Bulls', to be canned extensively in Spain. Reportedly, Zoya has zeroed in on Madrid and Barcelona, and a few quaint villages on the outskirts of these two cities to can her opus.
The male leads, together with leading femmes Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin are being showcased in Zoya's film which is centred around a trio of pals who take a road trip to sort out some issues in life.
And in keeping with the script demands, Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay have told to brush up on their Spanish. Incidentally, Hrithik can manage more than a smattering of Spanish, since he picked up the basics during the filming of 'Kites'. Farhan too is clued in about the lingo… whereas Abhay is an absolute stranger to it.
Behind the luscious persona ticks a beautiful heart too. Azhagusirai is awed over Katrina Kaif. Located 29 kms from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, the village steeped in abject poverty, finds a saviour for the girl child in the benevolent Kat.
Recently, the star boarded a private charter at the crack of dawn and zoomed into Azhagusirai to check in on her 'Little Darlings,' a department dedicated to provide skill development facilities to toddlers. Besides, the actress together with her mother Sussanne Mary Turquotte, also plans to set up a separate wing for children who are unlikely to be adopted due to physical disabilities.
Turquotte, who heads Relief India Projects (RPI) in Chennai has been fighting female infanticide for years and Kat , empathising deeply with the cause has stepped in to lend able support.
Kat and her mom have also supervised the construction of a neo natal and baby care centre at Azhagusirai where poverty has touched the lowest depths, where a girl child is killed or abandoned owing to the curse of dowry that's likely to follow in the years to come.
Apart from Tamil Nadu, the philanthropic mom daughter duo soon plan to kickstart a Mumbai chapter soon. Way to go, Kat.
Their romantic, chirpy chemistry in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' had set the cash registers ringing. In 'Raajneeti', however, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are on a totally different footing.
Kapoor, perhaps, enacting the most mean character in his cine profile addresses Kat as "Bhabhiji" since she essays… RK's sis in law and Arjun Rampal's widow in the Prakash Jha helmed flick.
And reportedly, Kapoor Boy would consistently tease Kat, referring to her as "Bhabhiji" on the sets of 'Raajneeti'.
Says Kat in a media chat, "Ranbir and I cannot get more unconventional than what we have done in 'Raajneeti'. We've gone into a completely new space. If and when we do another film, it will have to be completely mainstream."
Selfless service got bigger… and assumed a more starry flavour. Katrina Kaif and her mom Susanna Mary Turcotte's philanthropy swung a notch higher, as the duo who were working on two projects in India such as Relief Projects India and Mercy Home, have gone global tying up with an array of aid providing organisations.
Besides, the charitable duo do plan to open offices in five cities across the world including London and New York.
Reveals Kat in a tabloid chat, "It's been my constant effort to make my mom's charity grow bigger. We do plan to go global in a very big way, but firstly we would like to consolidate our base in India. And we have already got a lot of support from the people and the governmen
It's simply a Kat and mouse game. Sorry, Kat and Ranbir game. Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif shared an express fondness for each other during the canning of 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'.
And reportedly, it blossomed into …love, which threatened and ultimately severed the romantic link between Ranbir and Deepika Padukone.
Last year, Kat had scooted off to the US to catch up with Ranbir as he was canning scenes for 'Anjaana Anjaani'. The media soon got wind of this steamy development… and swiftly, a canny Kat hopped on to the next flight to London, to prove to all that she'd dashed off to meet her family in UK.
Post the media drama, Kat flew back discreetly to the US, a few more times to meet her alleged love interest. All was well, until one night when …she bumped into Priyanka Chopra, the leading femme of 'Anjaana Anjaani'! Kat convinced Kapoor to request Chopra in keeping their little secret.
The unit's back from the US … and the sizzling game is out! Kapoor and Kat have signed their third flick together. And close insiders swear that Kapoor has been often spotted at Kat's home.
She looked luscious when she emerged on the Malshej Ghat sets of 'Tees Maar Khan'. Katrina Kaif had barely greeted leading male Akshay Kumar and director Farah Khan… when she slumped to the ground and passed out!!
A stunned Khan and Kumar panicked; chaos reigned for a good three hours, even as Kumar arranged for a Mumbai doctor to be flown in to Kat's aid.
Citing over exhaustion and lack of sleep as the major causes of her swooning, an ill Kat was advised bed rest. Kat vehemently protested and… resumed canning the important sequence in the latter part of the day!
As the only female actor in the male dominated cast of 'Raajneeti', Katrina Kaif is being lavished with the utmost attention by filmmaker Prakash Jha.
Reportedly, Jha has booked a suburban dubbing studio in Mumbai for a gud 20 days! What's better, knowing Kaif's monumental trouble with mastering dialogues in the national lingo, Jha has freed her from the shackles of fixed timings.
The saucy Kat, hell bent on getting her Hindi diction perfect, is going all out to master her dialogues to the T. Sound agenda, Jha.
Her sartorial sense is rather classy. But Katrina Kaif, suitably deglam for Prakash Jha's 'Raajneeti', seemed to be thick in the midst of an argument over the… colour of her saris in Jha's political thriller.
Reportedly, Jha wanted her to sport sombre, light toned saris in keeping with her character of a politician. Kaif, however, wanted to sport simple, but dark coloured saris.
The argument escalated to a heated discussion, but eventually Ms. Kool Kat saw sense and assented to the sober sari ensembles. "It was a healthy discussion," asserts Jha in a tabloid quote. Kat, however, refused to bite the byte bit. Guess, she'll make the cut.
MUMBAI: Yash Raj Studios, located at suburban Mumbai, will play host and unfurl the red carpet to the crème de la crème of Hindi cinedom on Feb 27, 2010, when the fraternity will show up all coiffed and coutured for the 55th Idea 'Filmfare Awards' Night.
At a Press meet convened to announce the event, Katrina Kaif, looking suitably dishy in her off shoulder ensemble, fielded queries regarding the black statuette.
"Everybody wants to win in their chosen field of work," says Kool Kaif. "In my case, I get thrilled even if I'm just nominated in the 'Best Actress' category. Actually, more than my performance, I want the film that I'm acting in to win a 'Filmfare' award.
Katrina Kaif has said a firm 'no' to kissing scenes in her forthcoming films - even if the script demands so.
Says a friend of the actress: 'Katrina has said no to kissing scenes in all her films barring 'New York'. And believe you me, the directors are very keen to see her kiss her co-stars. Katrina cleverly keeps dodging all the so-called must-kiss scenes.'
'She is a very conservative girl at heart. In fact, when reports claimed she was going to wear a bikini in 'Dostana 2,' Katrina protested violently and made it clear to producer Karan Johar and director Tarun Mansukhani - 'No exposure. No kissing'.'
In fact, the cast and crew of 'Rajneeti' calls Katrina the new-age Hema Malini because she has the hits and she won't expose or kiss.
Says Katrina with a laugh: 'Well...that's true. Though comparing me with Hemaji is too much. I don't deny I've done scenes in the past where I did things that I wasn't comfortable with. But now I won't. I just don't feel comfortable doing kissing scenes, or for that matter, wearing a bikini on screen.'
In both 'Ajan Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' and 'Rajneeti,' there was apparently a request for a kiss with Ranbir Kapoor. But Katrina said a polite yet firm no.
Says a source: 'All the intimate scenes in 'Rajneeti' are between Ranbir and his American girlfriend played by Sarah Thompson. They have lingering love-making and kissing shots. In the Indian portion of Ranbir's story, there's no intimacy with Katrina. She convinced the director that the character of a dignified politician doing intimate scenes would not go down well with the audience.'
Katrina says: 'It's true...I'm not at all comfortable doing kissing scenes. Call me a prude or conservative. I just don't feel kissing scenes jell well with our audiences. So no kissing scenes for me.'
Despite facing strict competition from top actresses like Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, Kajol has remained the undisputed queen of bollywood and that too after being in semi/self imposed exile ever since her marriage. And her box-office clout and fan following, especially in the Overseas is unparalleled. Her upcoming project, MY NAME IS KHAN, with her lucky charm Shahrukh Khan, has all the ingredients to keep her position at the top of the ladder intact and even swell her fan base.
Not many will know that Kajol was offered roles in both the MUNNA BHAI films as well as the all time blockbuster, 3 IDIOTS, but she did not accept them as she found the roles too miniscule and felt that she did not have much scope in them. So, what made her accept MY NAME IS KHAN? As per the actress, it was because of the character of Mandira, which she essays in the film that she signed MNIK. She found Mandira to be imperfect, slightly mad, little crazy and zany. Kajol adds that she liked Mandira's conviction and the fact that her character thinks somewhat differently from what others will in her place or situation.
Well, watching Kajol is always a treat as she lights up the screen with her mere presence and watching her with her favourite co-star Shahrukh Khan will be 'sone-pe suhaga'.
Popular Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif Wednesday arrived fashionably late at an event here to collect an award for excellence in performing arts, but looking gorgeous in a green sari she more than made up with profuse apologies.
The British model-turned-actress was invited to collect her pending award for excellence in performing arts 2009 by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham). She could not take it last year as she was unwell that time.
While a source present at the function told IANS the 'flight delay' was the reason for her delay, Swati Piramal, Assoham president, had a different story to fill in the media with, before Katrina's arrival.
'Katrina was supposed to accept the award from Mrs. Vadra (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra). Mrs. Vadra was to come from Rae Bareilly but she has not been able to join because some political thing that has happened (there),' Piramal addressed reporters here.
'Now we are waiting (to know) if Katrina will accept the award from anyone other than Mrs. Vadra, as she is also very disappointed that Mrs. Vadra could not come,' she added.
Though a chunk of the media had already boycotted the event and left after two-and-half hours of wait, Katrina graced the ceremony three hours late.
Sporting a green sari and no jewellery, she tried to make up by apologising for the delay.
'I'd like to re-emphasise my most sincere apologies for the delay. There has been a little confusion here... Once again apologies for the delay,' said the 25-year-old, who was called Asia's most beautiful woman Tuesday by Femina magazine.
Apart from the award, she was also presented with a Patola scarf and a Mr. Gro perfume.
Her pristine looks have earned her reams of newsprint and she's been variously described as "India's sexiest woman." And now, Katrina Kaif, has sashayed into yet another elite list: Femina 50 Most Beautiful Women.
Speaking on the occasion, Kaif, looking a zillion dollars (as usual) remarked, "In my profession, we have to look great all the time, with perfect make up and great hair. But it's not as if all days are perfect. I do have days when I'm not looking my best. So everyday is a challenge for me too. Beauty, though, comes from within. I'm sure that there are many women in real life who are as glamorous as film stars, and they can shine through on the strength of their personality. Beauty comes through in the manner in which a woman carries herself."
Katrina Kaif may have catwalked down the ramp for topline designers. This time, however, Kat will adopt a big cat .. a leopard Catreena!
Apparently, the 15 day old leopard cub who was spotted in a village near Bhopal, was rescued by a team from the national park: Van Vihar. They christened her "Catreena", coz they felt that she "was beautiful and silly like Katrina."
When Kaif learnt about it, she made enquiries with the Van Vihar staff expressing her desire to adopt the rescued cub. Rs 50,000 from the Kaif coffers annually will ensure top quality upkeep of the leopard. Quite a catty deal, eh?
Katrina Kaif might be frustrated over Salman Khan’s over-possessive nature but the actress could not get out of the relationship because it was Salman Khan and his family and friends who supported her in every way during her struggling days in Bollywood. And this truth has come from the horse mouth Katrina Kaif itself. Katrina might be very diplomatic about her relationship with Sallu Miya but she cannot totally cut ties from him for the help and support that he has landed to her when she was ignorant about Hindi film industry.
"Salman Khan, his family & friends looked after me", Katrina candidly accepted in the show ‘Lift Kara De’ when Karan Johar asked her who are the people who helped this 19-year-old girl when she landed in Mumbai without knowing a soul in this city. Among Salman’s friend were designer Anna Singh and directors like David Dhawan and Anees Bazmee who has helped Katrina to achieve her goal.
But when Karan questioned Katrina the very common question, whether she is single, she cleverly replied, "I believe that until you are married you are single!"
