ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE has turned out to be the sleeper success of the year. When released, not many were willing to spend their money on the film because a) due to its plot based story, it wasn't one of those quintessential Bollywood entertainer in the offering and b) the pairing of Ajay Devgn and Konkona Sen Sharma sounded pretty much chalk and cheese.However, now that the film has turned out to be a decent success with more than 25 crores in collections already in its kitty, the reverse argument has begun. While Ajay and Konkona have shared screen space together earlier in OMKARA (though not really paired opposite each), one wonders if it's the experimentation around this unique pairing which has proven to be a blessing for ATITHI....?
"Don't really attribute our coming together as a matter of a unique combination being tried out", comes an outright opposition from Ajay, "That is just being unfair because no one was looking at experimentation here. Konkona came in because she was always the first choice. She has a class to her and the best part is that there is a certain timing that was required from her. With the kind of subject and treatment that the film has, this combination of class and timing was of much more importance than the combination of I and her as co-stars."
However, going by Bollywood diktats where a tried and tested formula is more often than not repeated, it won't be surprising if two intelligent actors like Ajay and Konkona are presented with more and more offers to pair up for screen all over again in years to come.

For a movie like RIGHT YAAA WRONG, this was perhaps the best time to arrive since it was stuck for long and was searching for a window. With a star cast that boasts of the likes of Sunny Deol, Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma, there was always a chance of something good in the offering. The film did indeed turn out to be quite good and saw out and out positive reviews coming its way. Still, the box office opening told a different story.
HIDE and SEEK must be wondering though if it has found itself amidst too much of crowd since it was ready for quite some time now. However, the film's director Shawn Arranha is positive that his horror thriller will see good footfalls coming its way despite the onset of cricket season. "IPL is a sport and a game for everyone to enjoy. Similarly my movie is also meant to entertain people. I know for sure that there will be audience for both of them."
Similar confidence can be sensed in the way Rahul Aggarwal made his debut as an actor, director and producer with small budgeted NA GHAR KE NA GHAT KE. Aided with decent promotion, this film which has actors like Om Puri, Paresh Rawal and Ravi Kissen adding to the 'star value', is arrived at a time when it had to find place for itself between four other releases.
Though it may still fetch some eyeballs in the interiors and single screen audience, one wonders whether the makers of SWAHA and TRUMP CARD come with similar aspirations. Coming out of nowhere, these films do remind of the last year's IPL season (coupled with producer's v/s multiplex standoff) where insignificant releases like these came in horde. No wonder, the outcome wasn't any different.

Her serious halo in parallel cinema has often overshadowed the fun side of Konkona Sen Sharma. 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' will showcase the comic timing of the two time National award winner.
"My comic roles in 'Life in a Metro' and 'The President Is Coming' have gone largely unnoticed," she declares in a media chat. "And in 'Aaja Nachle' I almost made a fool of myself."
'Atithi.., though, is her maiden full throttle comedy, and Konkona is sanguine of its outcome. The movie details the lives of a Mumbai couple which goes all topsy turvy when a long lost relative visits them… and stays put, much to their discomfort, leading to super funny situations.
Explaining her rationale for assenting to the Ashwni Dhir helmed flick, Konkona states, "Apart from the script which I loved, I also wanted the opportunity to work with Ajay Devgn and Paresh Rawal. Ajay and I are similar souls and since I knew him from the 'Omkara' days, we had a great rapport which will be visible on screen."

TV actress Shubhangi Atre, who became popular after playing title role in 'Kasturi', says movies are her ultimate dream and that she would love to pick earthy and realistic roles just as Konkona Sen Sharma.
'I won't deny that I am living my dream life in a way because I always wanted to be an actor and thanks to Balaji Telefilms and Rajshri Productions, I got two very good shows. It was my childhood dream of being an actor and I've been very lucky. But my ultimate dream is to make it big in cinema and I want to go there,' Shubhangi told IANS in an interview.
The actress, who currently features on NDTV Imagine's show 'Do Hanson Ka Jodaa', says offbeat films excite her most as an actor.
'I really like the kind of roles that Konkona Sen does or even Nandita Das for that matter. I am more into art movies and offbeat films. Films like 'Rudaali', 'Dasvidaniya', 'Wake Up Sid' and 'Paa' are more like my taste. Even though these were commercial films, there was something in these that touched the heart.'
'Films with an earthy, real and natural feel are my love, acting in them is my passion. I love raw characters with grey shades,' she added.
Asked whether she has received any such offers for the big screen yet, Shubhangi said: 'I am getting offers. I got an offer and I auditioned for it. I am waiting for a response so I can't talk about the details as of now.'
Shubhangi is currently being seen in 'Do Hanson Ka Jodaa' as a dreamy girl, who is married off to a bespectacled simpleton, played by actor Shaleen Bhanot.
She says she is enjoying the show a lot.
'I am really happy with the cast and crew of this show. The biggest thing to make a show or film a success is that all actors, especially lead actors should gel well. Otherwise the work atmosphere won't be good. But I have a great camaraderie with all of them.'
'Reema-ji is a pool of talent, we can take so much from her. Very few actors can switch on and switch off, but she is awesome and Shaleen is very friendly and professional,' she said.
