Rann Movie Review :
Ramgopal Varma is itching to tell a new story in his movies. You may garland him for his efforts or loathe him if you feel letdown, but you need to hand it to him for picking up stories that defy stereotype.
This time, in RANN, the maverick film-maker does an expose on the games the heavyweights in the media play to further their interests. RGV goes into the newsrooms and also behind it and throws light on the politician-industrialist-media nexus. Also, it’s an insider’s account of how news channels that are greedy for ratings sensationalize stories to grab eyeballs.
On surface, you don’t want to know what goes behind the scenes and how, at times, news are ‘created’ by vested interests. But RANN scratches the surface and opens a can of worms. RANN also mirrors the fact that just like there are good and bad people in every field, there’re some rotten ones in the media too who succumb to temptations and create news to climb the ladder of success.

Indians nursing bruised ambitions and fear over the racial ruckus at Australia would love to tune into this one. Over 70,000 audience members present at A R Rahman's world tour in Australia were in for a sporting treat too as former Australian opening batsman Mathew Hayden hosted the mega song and dance extravaganza.
Known for his squeaky clean consistency with batting, Hayden is keen to prove that he's adept at being an anchor too. Incidentally, both Rahman and Hayden have a clear Chennai connection.
"Rahman was born in Chennai, a city that I have come to love and a part of India that I have come to love for many reasons," stated Hayden in an interview.
A posse of 40 Indian musicians and dancers shared the musical podium with Rahman to promote peace and harmony in Australia. Hayden has been reeling off a spate of Rahman compliments to the media. "I'm excited that many Australians will be able to enjoy and appreciate the music of the incredible Mozart of Madras." We're all ears, Hayden.
He's traversed the path from modelling to movies. And if all goes well, Samir Soni is likely to stump audiences with his new avatar… that of a director!
What's hugely encouraging is that the psychological thriller penned by Soni himself has found approval from Karan Johra, no less, who opined that he ought to direct the film himself to do complete justice to the subject.
Reveals Soni in an interview, "I wrote the film in between shots and had been sitting on the script for almost a year. It's an original script and a thinking man's film."
