Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will play a meaty role in Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's forthcoming Kandahar (Malayalam), which revolves around a plane hijacking, army officer-turned-director Major Ravi revealed on Sunday in Kochi. If this happens, it would be the first time Amitabh Bachchan will appear in a Malayalam flick. Major Ravi, who made three war films (Keertichakra, Mission 90 Days and Kurukshetra) with Mohanlal, said he is just trying to imagine how the two greats would come in one single frame. Amitabh will be seen as the father of a passenger on the ill-fated plane that has been hijacked and Mohanlal will play a commando. The film is inspired by the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999. It was hijacked by five Pakistani militants while on its way from Kathmandu to New Delhi on Christmas eve and was forced to land in three different airports A(mritsar, Lahore, and Dubai) before spending a week on the tarmac in Kandahar with 186 hostages on board. Director Major Ravi says that Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has given his nod for his Malayalam film "Kandahar", a film about plane hijacking that will also star veteran Mohanlal,
The news came when Big B had made a short visit to the city on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters, Ravi, a former NSG commando who had directed two films featuring

Mohanlal, said that he is just trying to imagine how the two greats would come in one single frame. "It is great feeling when I think of that," he said.

The film is inspired by the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999. This is Ravi's fourth film after "Keerthichakara" and "Kuruskshetra", both featuring Mohanlal, and "Mission 90 Days", which told the real story of Ravi who tracked down the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Mammootty played Ravi's role in the film.

"Khandahar" will be shot in Delhi, Nepal besides Kerala.

Legendary star Amitabh Bachchan will most probably star opposite Mohanlal in Major Ravi's next flick Hijack. Bachchan, who consider Malayalam cinema in high esteem, had said recently that Mohanlal is the most natural actor in the country and he had been fortunate to co-star with him in a Hindi film. He also expressed interest to work with Mohanlal sooner.

These head honchos had shared screen in the 2007 film, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag with Mohanlal playing Thakur Baldev Singh and Bachchan playing his foe Gabbar Singh.

This is not the first time a director try to woo Big B for a Malayalam film. Vinayan who is popular for 'No star big hit' films have earlier given a try. Vinayan attempted to bring in Amithabh Bachchan for his last film Athisayan, but had to get satisfied with Jacky Shroff.

Mohanlal who has bestowed the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Indian Territorial Army hope Amitabh Bachchan would accept the invitation.

Like other Major Ravi films this flick too has military and patriotism as backdrop. The film's pre production work is in progress and other casts are not fixed.

On responding to high remuneration of the film stars, he pointed out, the movie-goers expect visual treat in cinema which require high cost. He said that he and Mammootty had been fortunate that they had come to the Malayalam cinema in its golden era when most talented directors were making films. He said that he was fortunate that he got the opportunity to remain active in the film industry for over 30 years.
