Venghai Movie Review

'Venghai' lives up to the title for being riveting. It hardly has anything new in terms of the story, but the shrewd screenplay and narration of events makes it count. Since the days of 'Thamizh', Hari has made it a point to lace his movie with commercial elements to attract front-benchers. And 'Venghai' is one more from his stable that quite lives up to expectations. The story is as old as the hills. Its a typical Tamil formula - that of a fight between the good and bad. Veera Pandi (Raj Kiran) is the landlord, who is respected by the people in Pandipuram village in Siva Ganga district. His son Selvam (Dhanush) is an upright and angry young man, who goes his father's way.

Violin Movie Review

Sibi Malayil who was known to handle emotional cinemas with great care seems to have lost his magic touch in the recent years. Sure, his movies has become more technically fine and glitzy than his older films, but what is gravely missing is that intrinsic emotional depth. As usual with the regular potboilers, his new movie 'Violin' is just another formula movie where the central route seems to be-cast a good looking pair, choose a tried-and-tested story, garnish it with sugary, passionate, delightful situations, add a couple of lively songs and shoot the movie at panoramic locales. The formula seems to be working good for quite some years, but here the situations are not so passionate, the lilting scores are absent and above all the affecting intensity is hardly visible.

Bombay March 12 Movie Review

'Bombay March 12' defy the stereotypes. It doesn't have lead men who do all the heroics, nor do they break into songs and dances. Not a love story, it is not an action movie or drama either. And even, it is not filmed at stunning locales in India or abroad. Instead, it is a tale that narrates the fates of men whose life gets affected with the after effects of terror acts done by someone else. Making a point about current day's situations where a person who hardly has no connections with events gets victimized due to his name and religion, this debut feature by Babu Janardhanan is hard-hitting cinema with many moments that you can carry home.In the technical front, Babu Janardhanan has brought in the best of the performances from his technical crew. Vipin Mohan's camerawork is his best in recent times, with the very best of the shots made in appealing tonal variations. The editor Vijayshankar has also done some praiseworthy cuts. Afsal Yusuf's songs are good and aptly suits the movie. But another name who steals the show is Prashath Pillai, whose BG scores are indeed exceptional.
